This Privacy Policy describes how Muxara (“Muxara”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use muxara.com and our online media converter. It does not cover the Muxara macOS app - see the Muxara macOS App Privacy Policy. By using our website and web converter, you agree to the practices described here.

Overview

The web converter at muxara.com is a cloud-based service. You upload files, we process them on our servers, and you download the result. Uploaded files are stored for up to 24 hours, then deleted automatically. For local conversion on your Mac, use the free Muxara app and read its separate privacy policy.

Information we collect

Website visitors (today)

When you browse muxara.com, our hosting infrastructure may automatically collect standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamps. We limit collection of this information where possible and do not use it for marketing purposes. We do not sell your information either.

We store your light/dark theme preference in a functional muxara-theme cookie. We also set a functional muxara-locale cookie when you choose a site language or dismiss the language suggestion prompt; it remembers your language choice so we do not ask again. We do not use these for tracking across sites.

Online converter (when available)

When you use the paid web converter, we may collect and process:

• Files you upload - stored temporarily in secure cloud storage via signed upload URLs, processed on our infrastructure, and deleted within 24 hours after upload or completion, whichever is later, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
• Conversion metadata - such as original and output format, file size, job status, and error logs needed to run the queue and deliver your download.
• Payment information - handled by Stripe. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. Stripe may collect billing details, device information, and fraud-prevention signals according to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Job and transaction records - stored in our database to process payments, prevent abuse, and support customer requests. We do not require user accounts for basic conversions; records may be tied to a session or payment identifier rather than a persistent profile.

Information you send us

If you contact us by email (for example at [email protected]), we receive whatever information you choose to include in your message and our replies.

How we use information

We use collected information to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the web converter and website
• Process conversions, deliver downloads, and show queue status
• Accept and reconcile payments through Stripe
• Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, or security issues
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
• Respond to support requests

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use uploaded media for advertising, model training, or unrelated purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies

muxara.com uses essential cookies (muxara-theme and muxara-locale) to remember your theme and language choices. The locale cookie is required for the language prompt and site navigation to work as intended.

With your consent, we also use third-party analytics services from Google and Microsoft to understand how visitors use the website and to improve the online converter. These tools collect usage data such as pages viewed and interactions with the converter. They are used for analytics only — not for advertising, cross-site tracking, or selling your information. You can accept or decline analytics cookies using the cookie banner shown on your first visit.

Service providers

We use third-party providers to run Muxara. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to deliver the service:

• Stripe - payment processing
• Google - website analytics (only when you consent)
• Microsoft - website analytics (only when you consent)

Each provider maintains its own privacy and security practices. We choose vendors with appropriate safeguards and limit the data shared to what is necessary.

Data retention

• Uploaded and converted files (web) - deleted within 24 hours under normal operation.
• Server and security logs - kept for a limited period needed for operations and incident response, then deleted or aggregated.
• Payment records - retained as long as required for accounting, tax, and dispute resolution.
• Support email - retained as long as needed to resolve your request and for our legitimate business records.

Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS), signed upload URLs, access controls, and isolated processing workers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your personal information, or to object to processing and data portability. Because uploaded files are short-lived and we may not maintain accounts, some requests may be limited to information we can reasonably associate with you (such as a payment receipt or support thread).

You can accept or decline optional analytics cookies at any time using the cookie preferences banner on the website. Essential cookies and storage for theme and language preferences are always active because they are required for the site to function.

International transfers

Muxara is operated from the United States. If you access our services from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S. and in locations where our service providers operate. We take steps designed to protect information transferred internationally in line with applicable law.

Children

Muxara is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Prohibited content

Uploading illegal or otherwise prohibited material to the web converter is strictly forbidden. This includes content that violates applicable law, infringes intellectual property, is exploitative or harmful, or is otherwise inconsistent with our Terms of Service.

We do not knowingly host prohibited content and take reports seriously. If you become aware of any prohibited or illegal material on muxara.com, notify us immediately at [email protected] with enough detail for us to locate the content (for example, a job identifier, URL, or timestamp). We will investigate and work to remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our products and providers evolve (for example, when the web converter launches). We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be noted on the website.
